Hotel: Best Western Plus John Bauer Hotel / Grand hotel Jonkoping or similar
Following check-in, we begin with a sightseeing tour of Copenhagen, the capital of the Kingdom of Denmark. Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid is the inspiration for the famous statue of the same name: a true icon of the Danish people. Amalienborg, our next stop, is considered one of the greatest works of Danish Rococo. Constructed in the 1700's, the architecture consists of four identical palaces connected by a square. If you are lucky you will see the ceremonial changing of the guards, an event that takes place every afternoon. Hans Christian Andersen boulevard leads to a statue of the notable writer in the City Square. After lunch we continue to Jonkoping.
Hotel: Järva Park Hotel or similar
After breakfast, we'll continue on our way to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Comprising 14 islands on the Baltic Sea, Stockholm is often considered the most beautiful of all Nordic cities. After time for lunch (own expense), you may opt to join us for an interior tour Stockholm City Hall at your own expense. We'll also visit the most exclusive ballroom in Stockholm: the venue for the annual Nobel Banquet. From the Blue Hall guests are invited up a stairway to the Golden Hall to dance. The walls of the Golden Hall are covered with more than 18 million glass and gold mosaic pieces, a work by artist Einar Forseth. The venue attracts close to 400,000 visitors a year. The tour continues with visits to the old Parliament building, Vasa Museum (admission not included), and Storkyrkan cathedral.
Hotel: Hafjell Hotell / Hunderfossen Hotell & Resort or similar
After breakfast at the hotel, the coach departs for Norway's largest lake Mjosa, and Lillehammer, famous for hosting the 1994 Winter Olympics. With a population just under 23,000, Lillehammer is serene and spacious. Accommodations for the evening are in Lillehammer or a neighboring city.
Hotel: Vesterland Holiday Park or similar
On Day 4 we travel to the European continent's largest glacier: Briksdal in Norway, covering 800 square meters - at its deepest 400 meters below sea level, and its highest point 2,000 meters above sea level. Surrounding the glacier is Jostedalsbreen National Park, where we will ride on the cable car to admire the wildlife, clear streams, raging rivers, and waterfalls. The ride will last for a half hour, after which the group will enjoy ten minutes leisure time to take pictures and get up close to the Briksdal glacier. Accommodations for the evening are in Sogndal.
Hotel: Pers Hotell or similar
After breakfast at the hotel, the coach will take us to Gudvangen dock to join the Sognefjord Cruise to explore Sognefjord, the world's longest and deepest fjord.
After two hours surrounded by intoxicating scenery, the sightseeing ship will arrive in Flam. After lunch (own expense), we will travel on one of the most beautiful railways: Flamsbana. This exciting railway attracts visitors from all over the world. Scenery includes beautiful fjords, waterfalls, and valleys. After the train ride, we'll return to the hotel in Flam.
Hotel: Thon Hotel Oslofjord or similar
After breakfast at the hotel, we depart for the Norwegian capital of Oslo. Every year on the 10th of December, this city hosts the Nobel peace prize award ceremony on the anniversary passing of Founder - Inventor Alfred Nobel. Unlike the other four prizes awarded in Stockholm, Sweden, the Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony is held in Oslo. We continue with a visit to the famous Vigeland Sculpture Park, located inside the Frogner park grounds.
After breakfast, the coach heads south to Gothenburg, a major Western Europe port. On Gotaplatsen is Swedish sculptor Carl Milles' seven-meter-high statue of the sea god Poseidon, which caused quite a stir when it was unveiled in 1931. Residents complained that the statue's legs were too long for its body. Also a must-visit destination is the market hall Feskekorka, an indoor fish and shellfish market where you can buy all kinds of seafood delicacies cooked with the day's catch. We conclude our city tour at Gothenburg Cathedral. The tour continues southbound, arriving at Copenhagen Central Station at around 7:00pm.
