About Amazon Rainforest

Also called Amazonia, this ecological wonder is the world's largest and most biodiverse rainforest covering 3.2 million square miles in the South American countries of Brazil, Peru, Columbia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Bolivia, Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana. The Amazon Rainforest is thought to have been created 55 to 34 million years ago and is throughout the entire Amazon River Basin that contains one fifth of the world's fresh water. It features more than half of earth's plant and animal species. Native tribes continue to live in various parts of the rainforest.
