Often just called Kona, this town is located within the Kona District on the Big Island. Kailua-Kona was created by King Kamehameha I in 1812 and he established his government there. It is a major tourist destination in Hawaii and is renowned for its beauty. Popular attractions include White Sand Beach, Kiholo Bay, Lekeleke Burial Ground, Royal Footsteps Along the Kona Coast, Ahuena Heiau, Kamakahonu, Huliheʻe Palace, Mokuaikaua Church and Kailua Pier.
